The Law Society has produced an excellent practice note on meeting the needs of vulnerable clients. It is essential reading for all lawyers, especially those whose work involves serving members of the public. It includes detailed guidance on:
- identifying vulnerabilities and needs
- improving communication with vulnerable people
- mental capacity issues
- working with professional third parties to assist
There is also very useful guidance on the regulatory duties relating to vulnerable clients.
This subject is high on the SRA’s priority list.
