The SRA held its first board meeting in Wales in Cardiff on the 7th March 2017. It was nice to see a real effort by the SRA to engage with the profession in Wales. It may have been the wine provided, but I felt the SRA managers and board members in attendance made a genuine effort to seek the opinions of the profession on any concerns or challenges they face. I do hope they take on board the comments and feedback they received.
As the Chair, Enid Rowlands, commented, their visit couldn’t have come at a better time. With changes to the Wales Act, the implication of Brexit and additional developed powers, it is an exciting time for anyone working in the legal profession in Wales, and the SRA is clearly alive to that. It is looking likely that future board meetings could take place in Wales, and hopefully an effort will be made to reach out to North and Mid Wales, where issues faced by the profession are likely to be different. The SRA is certainly off to a good start with all its materials available in the Welsh language, I was also told that work has commenced on a Welsh language website…watch this space!
