What is it?
A strong and diverse legal market encourages high standards, the effective administration of justice and improved access to services (see Risk 1!)
Why is it important?
The legal sector is becoming more diverse but is still does not reflect the general working population of England and Wales. Other trends that have been highlighted are: Inequalities in legal education and training lead to inequalities in the profession; black solicitors are under-represented; and once qualified the careers of some groups progress differently from others.
What does the COLP/COFA need to be mindful of?
- Encourage your staff to respond to the SRA’s diversity survey.
- Look at your policies such as your recruitment policy to see how diversity and inclusion can be improved.
